Review of Rangers vs Motherwell 1st April 2017

The first half started very well for Motherwell with a corner from Chris Cadden evading the 6 yard box and multiple Rangers defenders and finding Louis Moult who finished in three minutes from the start of the game. Motherwell dominated the first half up till the first 30 minutes with Rangers not able to find a way through the Motherwell defence with no shot on goal at all till 39 minutes. An no that’s not an April fools either, Very disappointing start. However Motherwell were very organised in defence and midfield, Targeting the channels instead of the middle where we are more stronger. Hodson and Wallace struggled and seem to me they’re rusty.

In my opinion, I feel the first half was very sloppy and wasn’t helped at all when the referee gave only a yellow card to Stephan Pearson for a disgusting challenge on Jon Toral. A booking towards Martyn Waghorn for a 50/50 with the keeper in the box. There was also the multiple tackles by Louis Moult without a booking in the first half.

Second Half brought three subs all at half time with O’Halloran, Garner and Halliday coming on for Hodson, Hill and Wallace bringing a more attacking option with Jon Toral going in to centre back, With Halliday, Kiernan and Toral as a back three. In a move that looked excellent from the start of the second half with Emerson Hyndman going close.

Rangers dominated the game for the first 15 minutes of the second half with Motherwell tiring at the back, The pace of O’Halloran and McKay showed with Garner nearly scoring but a goal line scramble. Then a few minutes later Joe Garner gets a shot a way but Samson punches it away with Keith Lasley up the other end shanking a goal wide. But 61st minute Martyn Waghorn releases Kenny Miller who put a sexual curling beautiful ball in to Joe Garner who finished at the back post to make it 1-1.

In what I believe was a hectic game since the start of the second half it was an excellent attacking performance where we were getting bodies in the box more often and more often as well we were pressing forward.

In summary I think this was an average but mental game to watch, We could have easily won it in the second half with some excellent chances just going wide. Foderingham was immense once again in goal saving us from a loss with multiple saves even a beautiful double save. It wasn’t too be our day even though we risked three subs at half time it brought a lot of energy for the second half and I thought we were so much better in the second half compared to the first. It was a brave decision by Pedro Caixinha one that needed to be done to be honest.

Thanks for reading and sharing, The preview for Kilmarnock will be up tomorrow night, So make sure to keep an eye on my Twitter and here as well.
