Review of Rangers 4-0 Hamilton 18th March 2017

Rangers have had a few managers in the last few years, Stuart McCall first game for Rangers 2 years and four days ago which resulted in a 1-1 draw with Livingston, Fast forward four months Rangers new manager Mark Warburton takes charge of a 6-2 win away to Hibs, His replacement? We welcome Pedro Caixinha to Rangers first game in charge of Rangers finishes with another four goal gap win this time at Ibrox in front of a sell out crowd .

With this game being highly anticipated with a sell out crowd by the loyal Rangers fans, Were well up for the game and what a first game it became, A convincing 4-0 win for Rangers goals by Emerson Hyndman and the in form goalscorer Clint Hill closed of the first half being 2-0 up, 10 minutes in to the second half Waghorn was brought down in the penalty area by Massimo Donati, Waghorn then converted from the spot. 16 minutes from time captain Lee Wallace finishes the game of completely.

It was a sensational performance for the first match in charge of the team that he hasn’t had much of time to implement his philosophy but by god has he showed what he expects from his players and it seems already a change side but same players with just one change from the Old Firm draw last Sunday.

What I thought was impressive with the intensity of pressuring Hamilton when we had the ball and when we lost the ball we made sure we won the ball back quickly giving Hamilton no time on the ball to create problems as Ali Crawford is an excellent player and could well have made problems for our defence but was made very quiet all day. The tempo of the team was wonderful to watch, Some of the football that was on offer was some of the most beautiful exquisite football I’ve seen at Ibrox for a long time.

We controlled the game from start to finish, with a possession stat in the first half of 69% and a second half possession of 55% and overall 62% which is excellent evidence of how much we dominated the game. We had an overall shot attempts of 10 with 6 of those on target. We could have secured a bigger result, However we will take 4-0.

We now have a break of 2 weeks due to international football, Which in my opinion is excellent news as it is much needed to Pedro Caixinha and his coaches can implement their new strategies and philosophy. The hard work really starts again Monday as he has suggested there won’t be a break for the players which is good news as we need to prepare for the last 9 league games left of the season and we need to make sure we go at every single game for 3 points, I fully believe in us we will finish second place, we have two games against Aberdeen and as Pedro says it’s only really 2 points behind as you can win those 6 points against Aberdeen to cut the gap.

Anyways to conclude the review I will give ratings to the players and a brief performance review on individual performances

Foderingham- Didn’t have much to do to be honest and that isn’t disrespecting Hamilton it’s just a fact- 7

Tavernier- A good performance where he was mainly kept quiet like the rest of our back 5- 7
Hill- Well taken goal and a solid performance at the back as per usual- 8
Wilson- Developing in to a settled centre back like throwing back to the days of when he partnered Weir, He is looking great at the back alongside Hill- 7
Wallace- Excellent finish and another wonderful performance by the captain-8

Holt- In a much deeper role than usual but he expressed the talent that has been hiding away before and was excellent- 7
Toral- Best game in a Rangers jersey today, I’ve doubted him previously but he has something about him that he may go further than I predicted in his career if he can play like he did today. Beautiful vision- 8
Hyndman- Just gets better and better with every game and when he plays a slack ball he pressures the opposition so well back to try win the ball back. A goal to seal his man of the match performance for me- 9

McKay- Was quiet in my opinion but did cause defenders some problems early on- 6
Miller- Caused problems and made a lot of chances as usual- 7
Waghorn- Strong performance from Waghorn, Really am regretting saying he should never wear a Rangers shirt again cause since then he has been top dollar- 8

Dodoo- Came on, Gave the Hamilton defence problems with his exciting pace a lot to come of young Joe- 6
Garner- Same as usual, A defenders nightmare and a Dougie Imrie night mare. He didn’t kick anyone’s family to bits either…. 6
Forrester- Came on a bit too late so didn’t have to much of a impact but did a few good runs- 6
